Klavze 28 Slovenia

Nestled in the Soca Valley of western Slovenia, Klavze 28 is a haven we feel blessed to have stumbled across! The result of a google search for yoga + Slovenia, we booked in for a week long yoga retreat and couldn’t have been more impressed. I have honestly never felt more instantly welcome or relaxed in a guest house as at Klavze 28 with passionate Australian + German owners Ben and Steffan immediately going out of their way to make us feel at home; helping with luggage, showing us around, ‘help yourself to whatever’, then pouring us a glass of wine whilst we gossiped like old friends into the night. Dreamy!

The pair have lovingly restored their historic premises into first class accommodations whilst keeping the original character; with the styling of the guesthouse harmonizing throughout and complementing the finished establishment’s vintage vibe. You could spend hours studying each piece and wondering where it’s come from – Ben and Steffan have spent the better part of the last 6 years collecting antiques from across Europe and filling van trips from London to finish their project and make the guest’s experience a homely and reminiscent one. The end product has a very war time era feel about it; with antique bed frames, cast iron toilet cisterns, brass taps, huge shower heads and claw foot baths. Hand made cushions, Moroccan rugs and Turkish towels add a texture and warmth to the otherwise stone walled, wood floored and white washed building, and each room has it’s own stocked pot belly stove ready to go.

Outside you could be a million miles from anywhere. A huge field with a single apple tree and the occasional deer sits below the deck, which is used for meals and yoga, and at the bottom of the valley the Soca River permanently running an iridescent blue. The village is a 30 minute drive where a tonne of activities are on offer (we can highly recommend the very cruisy white water rafting {only grade 2}) and Lake Bled only an hour train ride away – and the train station itself is a 15 minute walk from the homestead.

Seriously, this place is amazing. Taking maximum 8 guests/night from May through to October with ‘woofers’ running the place during the snow covered winter it does have a habit of booking out! I recommend working it into your plans if you’re ever in this area of Europe for a truly relaxing adventure. And you should definitely take up the breakfast+dinner option as Ben is also an incredible chef with all ingredients sourced from local and seasonal producers. Bliss!!

For more information go to the guesthouse website – http://www.klavze28.com – or for more on the perfectly organized retreat go to our fabulous yoga instructor Laurent’s website – http://www.yogalaurent.com/en/. I wish I was London based so I could do more of his classes! Highly recommended.
